Short, practical reads for homeowners — what to watch for, what to try first and when to call us in.

5 plumbing warning signs not to ignore

A tap that drips once a minute wastes buckets of water over a month, and it usually means a washer or cartridge is on its way out. Replacing it early is a small job; leaving it can stain the basin and wear the tap seat.

Watch for water pressure that slowly drops, drains that gurgle, damp patches on walls or ceilings, and any musty smell near pipework. Each one points to a restriction, a partial blockage or a slow leak hiding out of sight.

Try the simple checks first: clean aerators and shower heads, plunge a slow drain once, and dry the pipes under a sink with tissue to spot fresh drips. Note what you find — it helps us quote faster.

Call us in when the damp patch grows, more than one drain runs slow, or you cannot find the source. Hidden leaks only get more expensive, and a fixed written quote means no surprises.

Washing machine won't drain? Try this first

Standing water at the end of a cycle is usually a blocked filter, a kinked hose or an overloaded drum — all quick checks before you book a visit. Start by switching the machine off at the wall and laying towels down.

Open the small filter flap at the front, drain the residual water with the little hose or a shallow tray, then twist the filter out and clear lint, coins and hair grips. Check the drain hose behind the machine for sharp kinks too.

Run a short rinse-and-spin with the drum nearly empty. If it drains, the pump is fine and the load was likely too heavy or the filter too full — make filter cleaning a monthly habit.

Still full of water, humming with no spin, or tripping the power? Stop there and call us. Pumps and control faults are fixed-price jobs, and forcing the machine can turn a small repair into a new appliance.

Behind the scenes with the crew that keeps homes running

Every Wrenfield day starts at the workshop: the van gets checked, parts for the day's jobs are loaded, and the team walks through each quote so nothing is missed. Most visits are booked back to back, so preparation is everything.

On site, the routine never changes — dust covers down first, photos of the fault before we touch it, and a clear word with the homeowner about what will happen and how long it takes. Tidy work is simply how the crew was trained.

Between jobs there is always something being restocked, sharpened or learned: a new tap cartridge type, a quicker way to trace a leak, a better sealant for old tiles. Small improvements compound across hundreds of visits.

The day ends with invoices that match the quotes and a quick call to the next day's customers. One booking, one price, one guarantee — that is the whole system, and it works because the same familiar faces run it.
